So I generally am not one for movies, or books, that are sad and make one cry and all…But there are definitely some very good books, that wove in not just sad moments, but happy, hopeful ones into it too. Here are the top ones that I read recently, which are in this list purely due to the fact that they made me kinda sad..and a little wistful too.

  • Jodi Picoult’s House Rules

When you hear the name Jodi Picoult, the book that immediately comes to mind, is My Sister’s Keeper. Which is an amazing book. But this comes pretty close to it too. It’s about Asperger’s syndrome, a murder and the law. It’s not predictable, nor boring in the least. So if you do happen to get hold of this book, and is okay with being pulled into an emotional journey, go ahead and read it.

  • Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook

I think nearly everyone has seen the movie and know what I am talking about. This book has singularly made thousands of people cry…and also believe in love again. It should definitely come with a box of tissues and a tub of ice cream.

  • Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones

I love this book. It’s starts by telling us the main character, our narrator, is dead. She has been murdered, and the murderer is walking around free. Her family has been destroyed. Oh and she is speaking from heaven. All this you can get from the summary at the back of the book. What you need to read this book, to find out, is that it has been written in an amazingly positive way. It fills you with hope. My all time favorite, for genius storytelling by this author.

So go ahead. Stack up blankets, bring out your box of tissues, get a bowl of soup or a tub of ice cream, and get reading!!
